The game’s recurring narrative theme of Tommy’s naivety regarding being able to hide from the mafia, and being safe, only to have him be in disbelief (unlike in the remake where he isn’t surprised that he was found) when Vito and Joe show up to kill him made for a sadder ending imo. I see the remake just as a version of the original for people who haven't played the og game. maybe it's the time those games released because I'm 100% sure I wouldn't fell in love with Mafia series if Mafia Remake was first game from the series to be released, in these times.
Sort of but not really. Mafia DE is a full remake of the original, in some ways its a better looking game than Mafia 3 from 2016 and its certainly a lot more focused. Mafia 2 DE is a (half-assed) remaster, the main character models look a lot more detailed than the original, everything has HD textures, and there's improved lighting & shadow

Mafia 2 feels modern enough that they felt they could get away with just updating it. for me the narrative, choice of words, the acting doesn't exactly represent the mafia atmosphere for the entirety of the game. we can talk about the things they have added and removed quantitatively and put out a score that is probably positive but since this is kind of art, score wouldn't mean much on how the invididual felt while playing and after. I'd say Mafia 2 is on par with the first one. It's not as pretty as the remake of Mafia 1, but the gameplay and story hold up. Mafia 3 is overall fine, especially the major story missions. It's just that it went full openworld, with countless collectibles and a ton of generic/repetitive fluff that surrounds the actually interesting content. The original mafia is incredibly and poorly dated. I personally played it, and while it did give off really good retro vibes, it was not incredibly enjoyable. Now that the remaster/remake/definite edition/whatever one'd call it exists there is no point in playing the og one at all.
